The Debating for Diversity Handbook Is Now Available

After months of collaboration, research, and practical testing, the partners of the Debating for Diversity project are proud to present the project’s key output: a practical handbook on organising debate sessions in intercultural contexts.

We are excited to share one of the most important results of the Debating for Diversity project: the Handbook on Organising Efficient Debate Sessions.

The handbook is the result of close cooperation between the three partner organisations of the project — Mathias Corvinus Collegium (Romania), Za in proti – Zavod za kulturo dialoga (Slovenia), and Otvorena Komunikacija (Serbia). Throughout the project, the partners worked together to collect experiences, test debate formats in real educational settings, and develop practical tools that can be used by youth workers, educators, and organisations working with young people.

The goal of the handbook is simple: to provide a clear and accessible guide for those who want to organise debate-based learning activities that strengthen critical thinking, respectful dialogue, and democratic participation among young people.

The publication combines methodological guidance with practical examples drawn from the debate sessions organised during the project in Romania, Slovenia, and Serbia. It includes:

  • practical guidelines for organising debate sessions
  • examples of debate formats and exercises
  • tips for facilitating discussions in intercultural groups
  • tools for engaging young people in meaningful dialogue

We hope that this handbook will help educators, youth workers, and organisations introduce debate activities into their own educational programmes and create spaces where young people can exchange ideas, learn from each other, and practice respectful argumentation.

The handbook is available as an open-access resource and can be downloaded here:

The publication is part of the Debating for Diversity Erasmus+ project, which aims to promote critical thinking, intercultural understanding, and active citizenship among young people.

We encourage educators, youth organisations, and students to explore the handbook and use it in their own activities.
